Brainstorming for BECA Online Community
Please list your ideas for components/content. What kinds of things do you think BECA students would like to share with each other? What will the community find useful and valuable? What is the best platform for that content (blog, forum, wiki, webpage, IRC/live chat, other)?
List your ideas under the categories on the right, and add category pages as needed.
Don't forget to include your name! (See my entry in Creative Work for an example.)
Tony Fantano's Idea
Tony Fantano's third idea: There should be a clear link from SFSU's main website to the BECA Online Community. In order to inspire perspective broadcasters to attend SFSU we need to make a clear link from the Beca Department's Page. The online community should located under the quick links section where "KSFS RADIO" is located.
Josie Dominguez Perez Ideas:
Basically peers I've been collecting and I threw on here all of my ideas, more than three, but anyway, the main thing I want for the community is organization and creative interaction. I want the community to be effective and used to the best capability it can! I want it to look awesome as us! I'm kind of thinking that we can split the site like the yellow papers we all have to get signed and filled out. That way we can go by the path we are taking academically speaking but also cross connect with others? I like forums but I want to take our forums to the next level. How? I don't know by myself but collectively I can't wait to see what we can accomplish!
John Jenkins-Stark's Ideas:
I like the idea of a clear, clean, easy to navigate website. I believe that advertisement should be left off of the site. Unless that advertisement has something to do with a BECA student. I envision something with many resources specifically geared towards Broadcast Communications students. Something like Creative Cown.net has to offer. They offer forums on any of a million different subjects from specific programs, to "Indie Film & Documentary". They offer a library of articles posted by professionals on a huge range of topics. They offer podcasts for you to take on the road with you. All of these features have RSS feeds so that the information I find most important will automatically be delivered to me.
Lorena Zuluaga's Ideas
What I would like to see the most in our community is networking. We are the future of the industry and by getting to know each other we can collaborate in projects. I feel that as busy broadcasting students that we are, we many times only meet people who we are involve in projects with. We many times fail to see what other people are working on and don't take much time aside from our busy days to get to know who this people are. A way we can accomplish this is perhaps by setting up a Project Forum, where people only talk about projects they are working and seek for others to get involve. We all have seen many forums, but I particularly like the way this one looks. It is set up very clearly. (Example Forum
Mike's Awesome Ideas:
It would be great to have a resource where we could share job opportunities with each other. For instance, I want to shoot a Fringe Festival theater piece next Fall, after graduation, and would like to notify alumni and current students about the opportunity to do video and audio recordings of the show. We could also post our names if we’re available to do event videos, weddings, bat mitzvahs , or whatever for cash and experience. Furthermore, (idea #3 if you’re keeping score) it could serve for a way for us to keep in touch well after we leave BECA.
Claudia's Idea #1:
Ideally, I would love to be able to visit out BECA Community and see a well-organized site. Many times when we try to incorporate too many ideas, visually and aesthetically it can become cluttered. I do not know how advanced we will be getting with this community, but I really liked the idea of having some interactive Flash Adobe. I enjoyed the interactive site 360 Degrees. I thought it was easy to navigate through. We can create circles for information on teachers or specific emphasis within the BECA program. I would like to include a map of the Creative Arts building because as a new student, it took me a while to understand the confusing layout of the building.
Billy Wards Idea:
Some things that I feel would be benificial to our online community would be that we make it easy to use, technologically savy with a Hi quality look. I feel that as Media students representing this department we should stay on the cutting edge.I feel that a simplistic complexity will ad prestige to our community and our program. We should incorporate all the things we learn as a way for our page to expose current and future students to the technologies and opportunities that are available to them through the example of our online community. Also I think we should have one of those old school dungeons and dragons type interactive fiction games.I like the Arrow of death.
Billy Ward has another comment: Nevermind about the interactive game. Those things are hard to play.My bad.
